The Revivalists released the new anti-gun song “Shoot You Down” on Tuesday (Oct. 30) in partnership with Revolutions Per Minute to benefit the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund.
Inspired by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Fla., earlier this year, The Revivalists felt compelled to speak out about the overwhelming gun violence problem in our society.
“‘Shoot You Down’ is a song that was written straight from the heart earlier this year,” frontman David Shaw says in an emailed statement. “It’s an anti-gun violence song meant to bring awareness to a very serious and increasing issue that we currently have in this country. We believe that music has the power to change minds and lives. This is our pledge to survivors and victims. We love you and we are with you.”
“Shoot You Down” is available as a limited-edition orange and yellow 7-inch vinyl with the new track on Side A and fan favorite “You and I” on Side B. The orange color is symbolic for the gun violence prevention movement ever since 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton’s friends began to wear orange in her honor after she was shot and killed in Chicago in 2013.
“Together we will make a change,” Shaw adds. “Our hearts go out to the victims of the horrific shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh as well as their family, friends and all those affected. We stand with you. Let’s show each other love, compassion and understanding. Hate has no place in our world.”
Fans can purchase the vinyl exclusively at independent record stores around the country, with all sales directly going to the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund.
